I have played around with using film in my personal work for a few years. I love the softeness of it. The perfectly imperfectness of it calls to me and challenges me. As we have lived in the Middle East for so many years, I struggled to be able to find a lab to process my film, so gave up on using it in client work for awhile. This year, however, I’ve committed to learning more and incorporating in client sessions. As your Washington, DC maternity photographer, I love that I can capture your journey to motherhood on this beautifully classic medium.

I recently spent a day in Denver, with Paige Forden Photography chatting about the nuances of film. As Paige shared her experience with me, I had the oppotunity to photograph this gorgeous mother. I love how soft and dreamy these are – they truly feel like art!

I love how soft this image is. Even in this clean, minimal setting, film creates such a dreamlike image.

Film creates such beautiful greens. And I love how it so masterfully handles the highlights of the dappled light.

I used a mix of Fuji 400h and Portra 400 throughout this session. I love how well the lab was able to emulate Fuji 400 to create consistency!
