For this adventurous couple, a Bavarian maternity session high in the German Alps was the perfect way to celebrate their new little one on the way. Walking on narrow trails at 7000 feet might not be for everyone, but this mom has spent time as a mountain guide in a few of the world’s most stunning locations. She was clearly confident and comfortable on the trails and who couldn’t love those views?!

I think it’s so important not to be soley focused on pregnancy during your maternity session. These photographs are meant to tell a story for your loved ones and the generations who come after you. The location you choose, the clothes you wear, the way you connect with your partner. These should all be true to you. Of course your little one will love to see what you looked like while pregnant. But more than that, he’ll want to know who you were. I was thrilled when this family chose a Bavarian maternity session which not only perfectly captured mom’s and dad’s adventurous spirits, but also documented the beginning of their new life in Germany after a recent move.

For this session, we took the first cable car up to our location just outside of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I know it’s a gorgeous ride up, but I try to focus elsewhere, because that swaying car is not my favorite! We made it up to the top just after 9 am and wandered the trail that crossed the German/Austrian border. The views were gorgeous, but I especially loved the little blue flowers that dotted the mountainside – so perfect for the little baby boy we all can’t wait to meet.
