Here’s some fall family photos inspiration that might be a hot take. I know the bright oranges, reds, and yellows of peak leaf season can be stunning. But, if you’re planning on displaying these images in your homes, or sending them on a holiday card, I’m going to urge you to schedule your family session earlier in the year.

These photographs were taken just as the leaves were starting to turn colors here in Stuttgart, Germany. The grass was turning from green to golden and there was a slight chill in the breeze as we finished up the evening. These images feel so classic. So timeless. They could be displayed in your office or in your home all year and will work with any design choices in your home. They’ll look perfect on a holiday card.

This is truly my favorite time of year for family portraits. This transition from summer to fall. Life still has a bit of ease from summer before we all get caught in the hustle of the school year, fall sports, fundraising efforts, and holiday events. It’s not too hot, not yet cold. Sunset is getting earlier so you don’t have to figure out how to push naptime if you’ve got a little one, but don’t have to miss work to race the setting sun. It really is just the sweet spot! So if you’re looking for fall family photos inspiration – forget the fall and schedule your session for September!
