Over 5 months ago, I connected with Melanie, who shared her heartbreaking story of loss. It’s a journey so many women and families have struggled through, and Melanie vulnerably put her feelings into words after we documented some of the early days of her pregnancy after loss. You can read her moving words and see images from the time we spent together in her home here. The crib that’s not yet built, the nursery that’s undone, the tiniest little bump in mama’s belly. Days that were full of fear and hope.
Months later, we met up at the beach and celebrated the little boy everyone was waiting to meet. Less fear, still hopeful – but lots of joy! You can see images from that lovely evening here.
And finally, just a few weeks later, I received the news that their sweet baby boy was in their arms! The tiniest little blonde-haired boy had made it home. I met them back at their home to document these sacred early days. His nursery was ready and waiting, his crib was made up, and Mom and Dad had their boy in their arms.
“My journey to motherhood hasn’t been easy. It’s been full of sorrow, anxiety, and fear. I look back on our maternity photos and know that there was so much fear inside me at the time; so much doubt that I would ever get to hold and know the baby in my belly. If there was one word to describe how I’m feeling since delivering our perfect baby boy it would be: Overwhelmed. Overwhelmed with joy, gratitude for a healthy baby, love for him and my husband, and his cuteness.
Having photos taken in our home holds so much special meaning. Becca photographed us on our living room couch – the couch where I do my quiet time every morning with my coffee. The couch that has been the site of many prayers for a healthy baby, many tears mourning the loss of our first 2 babies, and where I recovered from my D&C after our second loss. Just after walking through the door when we got home from the hospital, I sat on that couch with Kepa in my arms and just sobbed. I was finally holding a healthy baby boy in my hands, in a spot where I’d spent so much time hoping and praying for just that. I don’t ever want to forget those moments or memories (good and bad). I’m so thankful that that special moment and spot in our home is forever captured in these photos.“
I would love to help you document your own family’s story. If you would like more information about a session with me, I’d love to invite you to send a little note my way here.
