As a Ramstein maternity photographer, I absolutely love getting to photograph couples and families at all of the beautiful sites in Europe. I am never going to say no to an adventurous maternity session in the Alps! But an in-home session can be just as beautiful and have so much meaning. As you think about where you’d like to document these last days of carrying your little one, consider an in-home session as well as an outdoor adventure.

The Portrait

As your Ramstein maternity photographer, I think a portrait of you, pregnant with your child, in the home in which you will raise him, is incredibly poignant. It’s not just your face that creates the portrait, it’s the setting you’re in and the details found within. While you know what your home looks like now, it will surely look different in 20 years. And your grandchildren and great grandchildren may never see it.

Consider just how special these portraits will be for your family in generations to come. They’ll not only see you, young and beautiful, and glowing with maternity, but they’ll also be able to get a little peek into a life that was lived. What colors were in your home, what type of art decorated the walls, what books were on the shelves. These details say so much about you and your hopes and dreams.

The Nursery

Whether you’ve waited for motherhood for years or just a few months, you’ve put thought and care into creating a special space in your home for baby. Sometimes you have the flexibility to give baby a room for himself, sometimes baby gets a quiet corner, but whatever it is, you’ve put your heart into the little details that will make that space uniquely his.

As your Ramstein maternity photographer, I love to document these details for you. Within a few days of having a newborn in your home, that space will look different, there will be soiled crib sheets, piles of laundry, wipes and creams for things you never imagined. In time, the books will become dog-eared and torn. The mobile will come down. But the nursery, as it is when waiting for baby, represents the hopes and dreams you had while waiting for him. What a gift to give your baby, to see how much he was loved and wanted before you even met him.

Isn’t there just something beautiful about that empty crib, made up perfectly, waiting to host baby’s first sleep?

Pets

I am such an animal lover, and as your Ramstein maternity photographer, I always encourage you to include your pets in your session. While having your dog bounce around with us outdoors is fun, I know that same dog also likes to curl up with you on your bed or sleep at your feet on the couch. Pets bring so much life to a home and we have such special relationships with them. An in-home session is a wonderful way to get to document their place in your life as well.

Additionally, being in home while including your pets allows them to come an go from the session. Rather than trying to focus them or have them “behave” for the session outdoors, chances are that in their home, they’ll relax and let you enjoy their company.
