As a family photographer serving the Washington, DC area, I’ve often asked for my favorite location for family sessions. By far it’s the beach! I know it’s a bit of a drive, but it’s so easy to make a fun day trip or weekend out if it. I love the freedom everyone feels at the beach and I have never once had a little one not have the time of his/her life out there chasing seagulls, watching for dolphins, jumping in the waves, and being loved on by their parents. It truly is an afternoon of memories, not just photographs!

I first photographed this family years ago for their maternity and newborn sessions when we all lived in Germany. Since then, we’ve all traveled around the globe and ended up in Virginia together. I was honored to have Mom reach out to update their family photographs. Although it’s fall and so many are interested in fall foliage, I always lean toward a more neutral backdrop – and the beach is the perfect option!

We had so much fun in the warm sun – just catching up and letting this little girl play and explore. Truly a joy to reconnect with this darling family!
