As your Washington, DC newborn photographer, I am often asked if an in-home or studio session would be best for your family. While only you can decide that, I do guide my clients as they make this decision. In-home sessions are absolutely heartwarming. They’re a wonderful way to document baby’s first home and work perfectly for families who want to showcase the sweet nursery they’ve put together! If you’re drawn to my work, you must share my love for things that are light and neutral. If your home has dark furnishings and walls, it will be more challenging to create those bright, light-filled images you see in my work. For that reason, some families choose to make use of my studio space. It provides a simple, minimal backdrop with clean light. We’re able to focus on your family and the connections you share. In either case, baby is always the focus.

Whether I’m photographing in your home or my studio, baby is primarily photographed in your arms. I love the perspective this adds. One day you just won’t believe how tiny he or she once was! I also love capturing the connection – the love on your face – as you look at your little one. These sweet early days when you can stare all day!

If baby tolerates it, I do photograph baby on her own. My approach is baby-led. I simply lay baby in beautiful light and document her as she is. If she is swaddled, I slowly unwrap her and let her place her hands and feet naturally. Just pure, honest photographs of your new love.
