Paris – the city of love, the city of light. One of the most romantic cities in the world. Strolling the streets of Paris, eating delicious and decadent food, and relaxing in a leafy park with your partner is a dream of a trip and a befitting babymoon.
Paris is lovely any time of the year but it excels in the shoulder seasons. As the weather warms and the flowers bloom, Spring is lovely for perusing the city. Alternatively, Autumn, with the leaves changing colours and the crisp air, make it a beautiful time to see the city. Either season offers comfortable temperatures and thinner crowds. But of course, you’ll want to plan your trip around your pregnancy. Be sure to check out this article with suggestions on when to travel when you’re pregnant.
For a local feel, this beautiful 1 bedroom apartment near Canal St Martin, puts you in one of the trendiest areas of the city, giving you a taste of living in Paris but with proximity to the sites (there’s even a view of the Eiffel tower from the bathroom window!). Or, this chic studio in the first arrondissement puts you steps away from the Louvre and the Tuileries gardens in the heart of the Old City.
If hotels are more your style, Chateau des Fleurs, near the Champs Élysées, will have you living out your belle epoque dreams, and when your weary legs need a rest, the hotel’s own spa offers a mother-to-be massage. On the left bank, Hotel Monte Cristo epitomizes boutique hotel with its unique rooms expertly decorated for world explorers.
Sometimes, the best way to experience a city is to meander. Wander the streets, get a bit lost, stop for snacks, rest in city parks and people watch from the street seating at cafés. On a babymoon, you get to be on your own schedule so plan loosely and lightly.
For incredible city views, head to Tour Montparnasse. You’ll be able to look out over the Parisian rooftops and scout out the iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and l’Arc de Triomphe. Visit the Saint-Chapelle and revel at the 1000+ stained glass windows. Stop at la Grande Épicerie Paris and grab an assortment of food and drinks before heading to Luxembourg gardens for a picnic. This is the perfect spot to relax and whittle away an afternoon. Take some time to wander the trendy Marais & Canal St Martin. If your sweet tooth is calling, book in for this private tour of the most delectable, luxurious treats Paris has to offer.
When you are wandering Le Marais, stop by Breizh Cafe for the most delicious crepes in an intimate setting. Le Comptoir du Relais Saint Germain is a classic brasserie serving traditional, authentic French food which would be perfect for lunch or dinner. If there ever is a time to treat yourself to a fine dining experience, a babymoon would be it. Make a reservation at Laserre and revel in the unbelievably romantic setting while you dine on a Michelin starred menu.
The beautiful boutique Natalys is a great place to shop for both mother-to-be and baby. Their classic French baby clothes would be beautiful in a newborn photoshoot. Stop by Tartine et Chocolat and pick up one of their soft toys (the French call them le doudou) for the baby; they’ll cherish it forever. Finally, peruse the quintessential French department store, Le Bon Marché, which has dedicated the entire third floor to children. You may need to pick up an extra suitcase.
After all of that, book yourself in for some pampering at Mamans et Merveilles, a spa dedicated to mothers.
Bon voyage!
