Most of my work focuses on maternity and newborn session – those very early days with your family. But as your Washington, DC newborn photographer, I love getting to celebrate big milestones – especially when they’re done in a big a way! This family was celebrating their littlest’s biggest milestone to date – he just turned one!

Mama wanted to have her session at one of the memorials and we decided on the Lincoln to make sure we could watch the sun rise over the Washington monument. I spend a lot of my sunrises at this exact spot and I’ve seen a lot of foggy, misty mornings up there, but this was one for the record books. It got so foggy at one point that you couldn’t even see the faintest outline of the Washington Memorial. Along with the fog came wind and mist, and in the cool morning air, this felt extra chilly. But despite all of this – this family had the best time – not one single complaint (maybe the promise of breakfast treats afterwards helped?).

I love that they’ll have these beautiful photographs of a lovely morning spent together that will forever remind them of their time in Washington, DC! What a fantastic way to celebrate your first birthday!
