As a Northern Virginia maternity photographer, I was so excited about the snowfall in the forecast for this session. However, the morning of the session, the road to our location was closed. Though my clients and I were disappointed, I knew this was for the best. This adventurous couple had specifically chosen this location because of its expansive, natural beauty. The snow and clouds made visibility so low that we wouldn’t have been able to include much of this gorgeous setting at all. (Ask me about the time I hiked the Alps for a session only to have white out conditions! Ha!)

We all went home, warmed up, and rescheduled for a few days later. We were thrilled to find that there was still snow on the rocks and ice on the top of the water. I planned on shooting the entire session on the small beach area, but this couple had no qualms about crossing the rocks.

Since this location was so important to them, I made sure to do it justice. While I always capture quite a bit of the environment in my sessions, I knew this couple would appreciate even more expansive views than usual. Can’t you just see one of these gorgeous photographs hanging over baby’s crib? A perfect tribute to the adventure this little family is embarking on together!
