As one of the co-founders of The Kindred Path, I was thrilled to get the news that GigiPip agreed to sponsor our community project, The Traveling Hat! This project would allow photographers all over the country to work with one of the gorgeous GigiPip hats and share their work within our community. As your Alexandria, Virginia maternity photographer, I knew right away that I wanted to incorporate the hat into a maternity session.
My turn to use the hat came in late February, when it was still cold and grey in the Northern Virginia area. Because the hat I was using was a straw sunhat, I wanted to bring a sense of warmth to the session. As I was considering locations, I knew that Jones Point Park would be perfect! The Potomac river, white picket fence, and charming lighthouse werejust what I had in mind to lend a summery feel to this session. And luckily, the golden sun came out to shine!
I had the pleasure of working with Lauren, from Fairfax Birth Care for this session. She is an incredibly knowledgable birth doula and childbirth educator. If you’re expecting, I’d highly recommend following her along! She shares the most insightful and interesting information – even if you’re not pregnant! Or, if you’re considering a doula, perhaps she’ll be a good fit for you and your family!
This session was the first time I’d included a hat in my work. I can’t tell you how much I love it! So much so that I immediately went out and added a hat to my client wardrobe! Even if you don’t yet feel confident in wearing a hat, perhaps just bring one along and hold it – or allow your client to hold it during the session.
I’m so curious to know what you think! Would you like to add a hat as an accessory in your session? Tell me in the comments below!
I would love to help you document your own motherhood story. If you would like more information about a session with me, I’d love to invite you to send a little note my way here.
