As a Washington, DC maternity photographer, I often have clients express uncertainty about whether or not they feel comfortable documenting their pregnancy. I completely understand! Your body is changing daily and you often just don’t feel yourself. Getting in front of a camera may be the last thing you want to do.

But, I truly believe that this is a time to celebrate your body – to appreciate its life-giving strength and flexibility. It’s a time to admire that soft, perfect curve of a growing belly and know that it has developed into a safe home for your newest love. This body of yours may never be the same – but neither will you.

These months of expectancy are filled with wonder and hope as you bond to that little life you carry inside of you. You’re so anxious to meet him or her. To find out the color of her hair or the shape of his nose. Will he love sports or music? Will she be wild and fierce? What a moment it will be to one day look back at photographs taken during your pregnancy – when you did not yet know the answers to these questions – and see how much you already loved this little one. And what a gift to give to your child – a glipmse into his mother and your story together at the very beginning.
