As a Washington DC newborn photographer, I often have clients ask me if they should choose to document their baby in their home or in the studio. It is certainly very special to document baby in his or her first home, but sometimes the studio is the better choice.
When you choose the studio, not only do you have access to the entire client wardrobe, but you don’t need to organize or de-clutter your home. Babies come with lots of accessories that need to be at arm’s length. As you begin to adjust to life with baby, these things will find a home, but those first few weeks can be a bit chaotic for sure. I love that my clients don’t have to fuss with tidying up – they just pack up baby and head over.
You also won’t have to worry about lighting and the effect the weather conditions will have on the light in your home. No matter the weather, we’ll be able to create beautiful, light-filled images in the studio.
When you opt for a studio session, you’ll receive beautifully lit photographs of your family, but you won’t lose the heart and sentimentatily that comes with an in-home session. Baby B and his family are such a perfect example of how emotive and intimate a studio session can be. I love how curious and gentle his big sister was. She may not be completely convinced that he’s an ok guy – but she’s warming up to him for sure. You can really see that tentative connection throughout this sweet session.
I would love to help you document your own motherhood story. If you would like more information about a session with me, I’d love to invite you to send a little note my way here.
Did you know my studio wardrobe is available to all of my clients? I know how challenging it can be to find pieces that you love for an ever-changing body. My studio wardrobe is a well-curated collection of boutique and designer dresses for both new and expectant mothers. I also have beautiful options for children up to around age 8.
