As a Washington, DC newborn photographer, I always love when a client requests an in-home session. While a studio setting can be beautiful and intimate, there’s just something special about being in your home. What a wonderful gift you’re giving to this little one. He’ll forever have these photographs to look back on – they form the beginning of his story. He’ll see his first room – the crib he slept in and the chair he was rocked in for hours. These are beautiful details he’ll be able to share with his own children one day.

These sessions are especially sweet when there are older siblings. They often feel most comfortable in their own home. And I love that they tend to act more naturally with the new baby when they’re in a familiar setting. And while we always make sure to capture some perfect looking-at-the-camera images, it’s the in between moments that document real life at home with a new baby that seem to be the sweetest.

This family had such a beautiful home. I loved their grey headboard and the added touches of florals in their room, which were brought over by one of the grandmothers. Photographing baby on his parents’ bed is always a favorite way to show perspective of just how tiny this little person is!
