If you’re planning one last trip to Europe before baby arrives, you’ll want to review this list of what to pack for your European babymoon!
Taking a babymoon trip has become an increasingly popular way to celebrate your pregancy. Some use it as a time to relax and indulge, while others see it as the opportunity for one last big adventure before you have little ones in tow. Europe has become an increasingly popular babymoon destination in recent years. Whether you are eating your way through Italy, or hiking in the Alps, there’s a wide range of destinations that are sure to satisfy your wanderlust before the newest family member arrives.
Most people choose to travel during the second trimester when the fatigue of the first trimester has worn off and you can still comfortably move around. Regardless of when and where you go, you’ll want to bring along a few essentials that will make your travel and experience more comfortable.
Colby Gable, an American expat living in Germany, expectant mom, and avid traveler met up with me in Iceland for her babymoon. We had the best time exploring the beaches and waterfalls, and the ice and sun that make Iceland famous. It was the perfect destination for this couple who eloped in Iceland just a few years earlier. Here, Colby helps you sort out what to pack for your European babymoon with these 10 essentials.
Compression socks are a staple throughout pregnancy but especially on long haul flights. They keep the blood circulating and swelling at bay. Knee-high socks are the most comfortable to wear for extended periods of time but thigh-high are also an option, especially if you have varicose veins.
It’s important to stay hydrated while pregnant, and air travel can certainly take it out of you. These handy hydration packs can be added to water to give you an extra boost of electrolytes while on the go.
Preggie Pop Drops are a popular remedy for nausea. If you are traveling during your first trimester or prone to nausea during pregnancy, consider bringing along some Preggie Pops or your other favorite remedy in case nausea strikes while traveling. Always check with your doctor before starting a new supplement or medication.
Hand sanitizer is a great item to keep in your day bag to stay germ-free before mealtime or after using the restroom. You’ll want to include it in your list of what to pack for your European babymoon.
A light-weight crossbody bag is perfect for European travel. It’s roomy enough to store all your daily essentials but won’t weigh you down.
Comfortable shoes are an absolute must! Chances are you’ll be doing a good amount of walking and often on uneven terrain and cobblestone or brick streets. Leave your high heels at home and pack a comfortable pair of walking shoes.
You’ll want to pack plenty of comfortable outfits for travel and walking around. Athliesure is unfortunately not as popular in Europe as it is in the United States, but don’t let that stop you from building an outfit around a comfortable pair of leggings or maternity jeans.
A reusable water bottle is a great way to ensure you stay hydrated while exploring Europe – especially if you are traveling during the warmer months.
Jet lag can definitely throw your schedule off. Add this handy pill organizer to your list of what to pack for your European babymoon and it will help you remember to take your daily prenatal and any other supplements you may be taking during pregnancy.
If you are traveling during warmer months – be warned that most of Europe does not have central air conditioning. While fans and portable AC units are typically available in hotels and Airbnbs, the small B&B in the French countryside may not have these amenities. A pair of comfortable, breathable pajamas will ensure a good night’s sleep even if it is a little warm.
I know that Colby’s suggestions for what to pack for your European babymoon will help you plan a comfortable trip. If you’d like to have me document your adventure, I’d love to chat with you about meeting up with you! Just fill out my contact form and we can start to sort out the details!
