As their Washington, DC maternity photographer, I had the pleasure of documenting this family when their son was born a few years ago. I was so happy to hear that mama was expecting baby number 2. I was honored when she asked if I would take their maternity photographs for them and we began planning right away.

We met at sunrise at the National Arboretum on a chilly October morning. The leaves were just beginning to change so we had a hint of fall colors to go with the cool temperature. I love that golden glow of the fall light!

The arboretum is one of my favorite places to take families in the DC area for their photography session. It has beautiful foliage and the historic Capitol columns add the perfect hint of DC flavor. It’s such a great mix of architecture and structure along with gorgeous sunlight and natural elements. If you haven’t been to visit, I would highly encourage you to head out there one day. It’s a great place to take your little ones with so much space for them to run and get their wiggles out!

This family is so gorgeous in the morning light! Despite the cool temperatures the little guy was thrilled to get to play in the water. Capturing him playing and just being himself is such a beautiful way to mark this phase in this family’s life. Just a few more months until they become a family of 4!
