As a Washington, DC maternity photographer, I spend a lot of my time scouting out locations for you. Whether you want a classic DC session, an rolling hillside, a manicured garden, or an intimate studio session, there’s something for you here. And if not – I do offer travel sessions so grab your passport and let’s go find it!
The Monuments
A classic session at the Lincoln or Jefferson Memorial provides the perfect context for your maternity session. These sessions take place at sunrise and require a permit with a fee from the National Park Service. You can see a session at the Lincoln Memorial here and one that includes the Jefferson Memorial here. You can view a rainy day session at the Lincoln and DC War Memorial here.
The US Capitol Building
What could be more DC than a session in front of the US Capitol? The white building is absolutely stunning in the early morning light! Take a look at a gorgeous maternity session in front of the Capitol here.
The Library of Congress
The stunning architecture of the Library of Congress is the perfect backdrop and lends some European charm to your images. I loved this gorgeous sunrise session at the LOC.
The Daughters of the American Revolution
This is one of my favorite buildings in DC! The light that comes throught the columns at sunrise is just unbeatable! There is a rental fee associated with a session here, but it’s well worth it for sure! Look at this dreamy session at the DAR!
The US National Arboretum
This location is truly gorgeous with seasonal blooms in spring and summer and stunning foliage in the fall. But the historic capitol columns are my favorite part of the park. This location works perfectly at sunrise or sunset and does require a permit and reservation with an associated fee. But it’s money well spent for sure. Think of your session here as a date night just before you welcome your little one. Check out a session from the summer and fall here.
The National Cathedral
The cathedral offers gorgeous gardens and absolutely stunning architecture. There is a permit fee for this session and I find that it works best at sunrise to avoid more people. Here’s a beautiful late-summer session in the gardens.
Tudor Place
A quiet garden tucked away in Georgetown, Tudor Place has a beautiful home and rose garden. Again, there is a permit fee associated with a session here, but if you’re looking for a manicured rose garden, this is it!
Spanish Steps
I absolutely love this little nook in the district. If you’re looking for an intimate, European feel, this is such a beautiful location – especially in the summer when the trees are full of green! Loved this gorgeous summer session at this hidden gem!
Oatlands Historic House
Located in Leesburg, at Oatlands, you’ll find a historic house, manicured garden, and beautiful white greenhouse. I love the diversity this location offers. It’s full of blooms and color during the summer and can be just as charming during the winter. There is a permit fee and reservations are required.
The Beach
If you’ve followed my work for long, you’ll know that my absolute favorite location for a maternity or family session is at the beach. Of course, it requires a bit of a drive and incurs a travel fee, but if you make a weekend out of it, what a wonderful memory it will be!
Manassas National Battlefield
Think open fields and a neutral backdrop. This location is gorgeous in fall when the grasses are long and brown. I loved this early fall session out in the field. You can also see a summer session here.
Great Marsh Estate
One of the most beautiful historic homes in the area. Great Marsh offers several beautiful backdrops: a beautiful tree-lined drive, striking manor home, and gorgeous view of an open field. There is a rental fee for this location that works perfectly for a sunset session. This summer session there is one of my favorites!
Salubria
Located less than 2 hours outside of DC, this is one of the most gorgeous indoor locations! It’s only available April through October and does require a permit fee and reservations, but if you’re looking for a romantic, intimate space with moody light, this is it! You can see a lovely session done in early fall here.
Jones Point Park
Another local favorite is Jones Point Park. I love the little white lighthouse and buildings and waterfront view. This summertime session at Jones Point was so darling and this wintertime session was beautiful!
Studio
A studio session is the perfect choice if you want to avoid cold or heat – or bugs! It’s quiet and intimate and is a beautiful way to celebrate the connection you already have with baby. You can see an example here or here.
Blueridge Parkway
If a stunning view is your goal, heading down to the Blueridge Parkway is the perfect choice. There is a travel fee and entrance fee, but those views are worth every penny! See a gorgeous summer sunset there here.
Great Falls
If you want a more wild, natural setting and enjoy a bit of adventure, you might love this area along the Potomac. It works perfectly all year long. You can see a winter or summer session here.
Hampton Mansion
This is another stunning home, located in Maryland. There is a travel fee, but no permit fee and it works beautifully in the evening. The gates close early, so you’ll have to park off-site and walk in. Here’s a beautiful late summer session.
Strong Mansion
If you’re looking for a location that has both indoor and outdoor options, Strong Mansion is it! The grounds and interior of this beautiful estate are absolutely stunning. There is a fee and weekends are often booked up with weddings, but this makes for an absolutely gorgeous setting! You can see a winter maternity session here.
Perhaps you want to document your maternity or milestone in the place where you grew up, or maybe you’re planning a baby moon to a special destination. I love getting to help you plan the perfect location in which to document this milestone in your lives and have my passport ready!
